Reed & Mackay commits to achieve net zero with Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi)

THE LEADING TRAVEL MANAGEMENT COMPANY JOINS CLIENTS AND CORPORATIONS AROUND THE WORLD IN RESPONSE TO URGENT CALL FOR CLIMATE ACTION.

LONDON 20 October 2022 — Reed & Mackay, the global service leader for corporate travel and event management, today announced it has committed to set near- and long-term company-wide emission reductions targets in line with climate science with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The SBTi is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.

Fred Stratford, Group Chief Executive Officer for Reed & Mackay, said, “At Reed & Mackay, we understand that we occupy a hugely strategic point within our clients’ value chain. This commitment to SBTi not only helps us ensure we remain focused on our own net-zero targets, it assures our clients that they have chosen a travel management company that puts its sustainability plans into action.”

With this commitment, Reed & Mackay has responded to the SBTi’s urgent call for corporate climate action by committing to align with 1.5°C and net-zero through the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign. The travel management company will now have two years to formulate its net-zero targets and present them to the SBTi for validation.

“Over the last couple of years, we have had an incredible level of engagement with our clients on the topic of sustainability and have made ambitious investments to address the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions within the travel sector,” said Christopher Truss, Reed & Mackay’s International Development & Sustainability Director. “We are proud to step up and make this commitment to SBTi. We know that several of our clients have done the same and we are pleased to align behind a collective mission to set meaningful and impactful emissions reductions targets.”

Susanne Bouma, Head of Partnerships & Programs, Renewable Aviation at Neste, Reed & Mackay’s partner for sustainable aviation fuel, said, “Business travel remains important for global business, but we need to work on reducing the related carbon emissions. Setting science-based targets enables companies like Reed & Mackay to accelerate their actions in responding to the urgent need for climate action.”

This commitment further strengthens Reed & Mackay’s pledge to operate in the most sustainable way possible. Since 2021, the company has become a United Nations Global Compact participant; partnered with Neste for sustainable aviation biofuels; and kickstarted the development of a sustainability module allowing clients to manage their travel programmes in accordance with CO2 parameters. In April of this year, EcoVadis, the world’s largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, awarded Reed & Mackay a Gold rating, which puts the company in the 94th percentile amongst its industry peers.

The Science Based Target initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments. The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting, offers resources and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption, and independently assesses and approves companies’ targets. www.sciencebasedtargets.org @sciencetargets
